Why trans “literacy”?
I like to think of this work in terms of literacy because it’s ultimately about comprehension, awareness, and integrating new persepctives. When learning to read, we start by understanding that letters are symbols within a larger context **talk about transness conceptually with this metaphor*
The goal of trans literacy is to gain a deeper understanding of transness on a personal and conceptual level.
Transness is about a lot more than gender - it’s about contagious freedom and radical honesty. authenticity it’s a way of being, it’s self-knowledge, it’s personal inquiry, it’s an experience of moving through the world
Literacy is about expansion - making our world bigger through new knowledge
